I've been considering buying a netbook - that is, an extremely small, cheap, portable laptop - And I'm having some issues. A list of the options and the reasons I'm hesitating follows.
The Good
- We're a vendor (discount)
- Fully FOSS driver support
- Plentiful features
- Cheap
The Bad
- Low resolution screen (1024x600)
- Silly glossy Inspiron styling
- Apparent small, awkward keyboard
The Good
- High resolution screen (1280x768)
- Extremely solid build
- Painfully nice brushed aluminum styling
- Almost-full sized keyboard
The Bad
- Expensive-ish
- Misplaced backslash key (down and to the left)
- Binary blob drives from VIA
The Good
- Competitively priced
- Outstanding ease of use
- Not a choke hazard
- Less embarrassing than all the other shit netbooks on the market that I haven't already mentioned
The Bad
- No Linux options available
Conclusion
For the time being, it appears as though I will keep my netbook in my wallet. As cash.
